Setting up Duo Mobile with Google 2-Step Verification
If you are having connectivity issues during the day, or are traveling abroad, you may want to consider setting up the Duo Mobile App on your phone to generate bypass codes for your Gmail account regardless of connectivity.
On Your Computer
- Go to the Google 2-step enrollment page and sign in.
- Scroll down until you see Set up an alternative second step.
- Under Authenticator app, select Set Up.

- Select the make of your device and select Next.
- You will be prompted to download the Authenticator App at his point. However, you can ignore this message as you will be using the Duo Mobile app instead.
On Your Phone
- On your phone, launch the Duo Mobile App, and tap on the "+" sign on the top right corner and shown below. Scan the QR code on your computer screen.

- You should now see a 6-digit code below your @ncsu.edu email address on your phone. (NOTE: If you only see your email address, tapping on it once should reveal the code.)
Back on your computer
- On your computer screen, select Next.
- Enter the 6-digit code you see on your phone into the textbox.
- Select Verify.
- Select Done.
- You should now see Authenticator on (The Make of your device) underneath Authenticator app.
You should now be able to generate your own 6-digit bypass codes for your NCSU Gmail using the Duo Mobile App. The codes that are generated by the app auto-refresh every 30 seconds.
