Sharing Zoom Recordings with Students

In order to access Zoom recordings of class sessions or other materials, the recording must be made available to students by modifying sharing settings and providing a URL of the recording to students.

This article provides instructions on sharing Zoom recordings.

Sharing Links to Zoom Recordings

To share a Zoom recording, a recording must be created.  Follow the instructions in the "Recording in Zoom" article to record a Zoom meeting.

To share an existing Cloud recording:

  1. Log into NC State's Zoom portal.
  2. In the Zoom navigation menu, select the Recordings & Transcripts tab.
  3. In the Cloud recordings tab, find the recording to share in the list.
  4. To the right of that recording, click the Share button to access its sharing settings.
  5. Set Link access to one of the settings outlined in the "Security Permissions" section of this article.
  6. Click the gear icon to access More settings, including the passcode option and other restrictions.
  7. If any settings were changed, click the Save button to apply the changes.
  8. After applying restrictions, copy the URL to the recording and share it with students via email or Moodle.

Zoom recordings will be retained as needed to stay within data quota limits, and unused recordings may be deleted per the WolfWare Zoom Recording Retention policy.  Upload Zoom recordings to Panopto for long-term storage using the instructions in the "Uploading Video Files to Panopto" article.

To change the default settings for all future Zoom Recordings, modify them on the Settings page of the NC State Zoom web portal.

Security Permissions

The following options are available to set restrictions on viewing the recording:

Different recordings can be given different sharing permissions depending on the intended audience of the recording.

NC State users only

With this security permission enabled, a user can only view this recording if they are signed into an NC State Zoom account. If they are already signed into the Zoom client or NC State Zoom portal when they click the link, they will go directly to the recording.

If they are not signed into Zoom, ask them to sign in using the instructions in the "Getting Started with Zoom" article.

Sharing Recording Links in Moodle

A common approach to sharing Zoom recordings is to post the link in a Moodle course. For example, share the Zoom recording link as a URL on the main course page using the directions  in the "Using Links in Moodle" article.
