Deleting Student Attempts in a Moodle Quiz


There are situations where it is necessary to delete a student's attempt from a Quiz in Moodle. This could be when a student submits a quiz prematurely, or when an unfinished Quiz is attempted before it's ready.

This article provides guidance on deleting attempts in a Quiz.

Deleting Student Attempts in a Moodle Quiz

Once a student attempt has been deleted, it cannot be recovered by the instructor. Exercise caution when deleting any attempts from a Quiz, and communicate any changes to impacted students well in advance of the deletion. 

To clear existing quiz attempts, follow the instructions below:

  1. Navigate to the Quiz to delete attempts from.
  2. In the main Quiz page, click the Attempts: # link.
  3. In the table of attempts on the Results page, select any attempts to delete by clicking on the check box to the left of the users name and picture.
  4. At the bottom of the table, click the Delete selected attempts button.
  5. In the Confirm pop-up menu, click the Yes button.

Once the attempts are deleted, they will be permanently removed from the course.
