Using the Feedback Activity in Moodle

Instructors can collect information from their students in a Moodle course using the Feedback activity. With Feedback, an instructor can write questions, and see a high-level analysis of individual responses from students.

This article provides instructions for working with the Feedback activity in Moodle.

Using the Feedback Activity

Before the Feedback activity can be configured with custom questions, it must be added to the Moodle course.

Adding the Feedback Activity to a Moodle Course Page

To add the Feedback activity:

  1. In the top right corner of the Moodle window, enable Edit mode using the toggle.
  2. In a given section of the main Moodle course page, click the Add content icon (which looks like a plus sign).
  3. In the drop-down menu that appears, select the Activity or resource option.
  4. In the activity chooser, select the Feedback option.
  5. On the New Feedback page, give the activity a name.
  6. Click the Save and display button.

Following this, questions can be added to the Feedback activity.

Additional settings are detailed in the "Feedback Settings" section of this article, and can be edited before responses are recorded.

Adding Questions

After the Feedback activity has been created, questions must be added to the activity. Question types and their settings are detailed via Moodle's "Building Feedback" article.

To add a question to the Feedback activity:

  1. On the Feedback page, click the Edit questions button.
  2. Click the Add question button and select the type of question to add.
  3. In the question editing page, set the Question field to the question's text.
  4. Configure the remaining question settings as needed.
  5. Click the Save changes button.

This will add a question of the chosen type to the Feedback activity.

Reviewing Responses

After questions have been answered, the Analysis report can be viewed for aggregate data, and the Responses report will display the answers provided to specific questions. These reports and their fields are detailed in Moodle's "Using Feedback" article.
